What is a DISC Profile?

If you want to make your Human Resources Department more effective, you should train your Human Resources personnel in administering DISC profile assessments. DISC is a four quadrant behavioral model that examines the behavior of an individual in their environment or within a specific situation. A DISC assessment classifies four aspects of behavior by testing a person’s preferences in word associations. The four aspects of behavior are Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness.

The DISC profile is determined on a grid. This grid has Dominance and Influence on the top row, together representing extroverted aspects of a person’s personality. Steadiness and Conscientiousness are on the bottom row, representing the introverted aspects. People who score high in the Dominance style tend to be extroverted, pioneering, forceful and determined, all of which can make them seem a bit unfriendly. Those who score high in the I style are also extroverted but are usually warm, enthusiastic, convincing and demonstrative; however, they tend to skip paying attention to details. A high Steadiness score indicates an introverted but stable, persistent person that often has difficulty with change. The high Conscientiousness score also indicates an introverted person, but one who is exacting, precise and accurate; someone in this category may have difficulty thinking outside of the box.

Your Human Resources personnel can use all of the information that they garner from a DISC profile assessment for team building, career planning, hiring, conflict resolutions, personal counseling, and executive coaching.
