In terms of quality 4X4 vehicles in Britain, it seems like Land rover have dominated the market for a while. If anybody wants a luxurious 4X4 vehicle capable of taming even the roughest terrain, they tend to go straight for the Land Rover purely out of habit it would seem. However, there is an emerging 4X4 force that could conceivably take the wind out of the sails of all the competition. The only strange thing about this is that it isn’t a new manufacturer with an array of fancy new models, in fact it is the brand that kicked the whole 4X4 trend off in the first place. I speak, of course, of Jeep.
I test drove a Jeep Cherokee recently and I have to say that I was very impressed indeed. For a vehicle with a substantially lower price tag than the equivalent Land rover model, it does a very good job of matching its rival pound for pound. Perhaps the only noticeable difference between the two was that the Land Rover has a slightly more expensive looking interior.
To the true 4X4 fans, this plus point is neither here nor there. Essentially these vehicles have been designed to withstand punishment on rough terrain. With this said there is likely to be much consternation regarding the omission of entertainment players, heated glove boxes and other relatively irrelevant contrivances.
My personal recommendation however, is to check the used 4X4 market, as some shopping around is bound to uncover very interesting bargains that will drastically decrease the initial outlay payment. You could drive away a vehicle like a Used Jeep for a lot less than you expect to.
