When Covid-19 was at its highest, we ran a quick survey on Roadtrip247 and asked the people what issues they thought young people were struggling with. These are the top eight:
- Will I pass this year?
- I’m afraid my family will fall ill.
- I’m afraid someone close to me will die.
- I’m afraid of the future.
- I’m afraid I’ll get ill.
- Will I be able to finish school?
- Parents who lost their jobs.
- I’m afraid of the new normal.
Read slowly, there’s a major story here. A story about fear of what tomorrow may bring. There is so much uncertainty in the world. Nobody knows what the new normal will look like.
And it’s not only the world of the youth that looks like this. The adult world looks like that too. Most of them are afraid. Most of them are uncertain. Nobody can really say how the world of tomorrow is going to work.
Humans aren’t really built for this. We want to know what tomorrow will look like. We want to plan. We don’t want to be taken by surprise. Everything is such a mess. What can we hold onto?
For many years it was a great option to invest your savings in property. You earned an excellent monthly return on your investment. You could go to bed happy, because there was a guaranteed return on your investment.
And then Covid-19 hit the world and lockdown meant people had to stay home. Suddenly everybody had to work from home. Surprisingly, most adjusted so well that it became the new normal. And business owners started cancelling lease agreements in their thousands.
What a knock for the property moguls. The investments they put into buildings started shaking. What had been a good idea turned into a bad investment. Like the youth, they grew terrified and did not know if they would survive financially to the next month.
There’s nothing in this world we can trust. We can only trust in God: 14Now that we know what we have-Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God-let’s not let it slip through our fingers.
We must hold onto the knowledge that his Son had died on the cross for us. That is why we can say with certainty that one day when we leave this untrustworthy world, we are going to heaven.
With everything in us, we must hold onto the knowledge that God will always be there for us. Even while we are still living in this uncertain world, we can know for sure that God is there and will protect us all the way. That’s why I’m less afraid now.

Prayer
Father, things aren’t going well in the world. The many uncertainties make one afraid. You are the only thing that we can hold onto. Yes, our faith in You is our anchor that gets us through the day. Amen.
