Sports Changing the Face of Feminism: A Masculine Look of Sochi 2014

Right from the moments of my birth, or maybe from the moment I began to understand things around me, I have always lived with the conception and preaching of the bible which is that “God found Adam to be alone and lonely, so he gave Adam a woman (Eve) to be his companion.” So two people were actually created, but of course one was created with one lib of the other. Maybe it is a good reason to say they are weaker, but just like the bible, there is also a phrase that I grew up with which is actually in contrast with what the bible has thought me and it is that: whatever a man can do, a woman can two better.

Maybe this is right because we have women in all fields of life doing the same thing men are doing and they seem to be in control of the society to the very best of my understanding because they are treated with higher preference. If you doubt me, then you should note that it is legal for woman to hit a man in most cases and be considered nothing, but a woman being hit by a man actually lands the man in trouble. However, feminism of this nature have been accounted for in the western nations, unlike the Arabic and African world where men still dominate women in abusive manners and go free.

What is interesting is that sports might be changing this face. Right from the unset, Russia has lot to prove to the world. That they are not the soviet past, instead they are the present democracy; that they are not the masculine and domineering society; instead they understand the nature of nurturing people around; and of course that they can successfully host world sports like the Olympics without any worry. Well they have been successful in doing all these with one more added flavor and that is introducing the first ever “women sky jumping” which women has never participated in over 90 years.

Hey, don’t be carried away by that, you should understand that this success didn’t come at such ease, instead it was hardly fought by many women like those of you reading this and the fight lasted over decades.

Thus, I am beginning to understand as well as believe that sports is really communicating and promoting change, feminism, equality and gender unity. Women can do anything that men can do. They are in the army, they are leaders, they also suffered slavery like men, they are in our homes, our schools, communities, countries and every part of our lives. So why do they need to be left out in some cases? I think what Russia and the Olympics board has done is a great social change initiative that counties, communities, companies, and family attaching women with some sense of inferiority should learn from. All human beings in the world now are products of women. They gave birth to governors, presidents, senators and so on, yet they are still being left out in some society? That is totally unfair and the world needs to look up to Russia in that view with reference to Sochi 2014. This is the time that women all over the world need to be respect and accorded their right stands in the society with equality and fairness. Also to all women around the world, you can fight for 80 years without winning the battle, but those who fought for the women sky jumping is asking you to try one more time. Yes! Never give up! The change needs to be made but you have a role to play.
