What Should Be The Lifestyle Of a Christian

Why are Christians living on the other side of Christianity? Why are we not doing what Jesus is expecting us to be doing? Why are we just following blindly the doctrine of men, and not the teachings of Jesus the Christ?

It is so easy to get carried away by the doctrine of men. Unsuspecting believers seem to be trapped by the eloquence and charisma of preachers who themselves are also carried away by what seems to be, the norm of Christian doctrine.

God has promised to supply all our needs, according to his riches in glory by Jesus Christ. But the Christian is laboring daily to satisfy his or her own need, because no attention is paid to the order in which Jesus said to accomplish things.

The Lifestyle of Jesus

Every where he went he did good. Jesus himself said unto us, “the works that I do, shall you do also, and greater works than these shall you do, because I go unto my father.” We are expected by the Lord to do as he did. That is what he said we should be doing, then so be it!

We spend so much time in church waiting to eat the crumbs that fall fro the master’s table. We are not dogs, we are sons of God, and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. Whatever Jesus used to do what he did, we have access to all of it. We ought to be workers together with God. We ought to be doing what he is doing, and not what the multitude is doing. We have work to do, and that work is with Jesus.

There is an incident in the bible in 2 Samuel 9, where David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” Mephibosheth was brought to the house of David, 2 Samuel 9:6-8 – And Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and prostrated himself. And David said, “Mephibosheth.” And he said, “Here is your servant!” And David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show kindness to you for the sake of your father Jonathan, and will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul; and you shall eat at my table regularly.” Again he prostrated himself and said, “What is your servant, that you should regard a dead dog like me?”

The issue here is that, kindness was offered unto Mephibosheth by David, but what is preached in our churches today is that, the christian should take the place of Mephibosheth, and always be dependent, and cry out for mercy, because of his own state. But I believe the Lord would want us to take the place of David. He want us to be looking for people to bless. People to show mercy unto.

I think that it is lack of understanding of scripture that is generating this kind of behavior. Do you know the story of the Good Samaritan in the bible? He showed mercy unto the guy that fell among thieves, You can read about this in Luke 10:25-37.

We too must have a lifestyle like that of the Good Samaritan. When the men answered the question of who was a neighbor to him that fell among thieves, Jesus told them to go and do likewise. This is what is expected of the Christian. Not sitting in the congregation week after week, and year after year, and not doing what Jesus said for us to do. No wonder he would say, “why call me Lord, Lord, and do not the things I say.”

Let us get back to our Christian duties, and live a life of true purpose and love. Let us look for opportunities to bless people, for this is what God expects from us.
