We oftentimes get so busy doing many good things that we neglect spending time with God. Have you ever realized that your life can become very consumed with doing good things? Didn’t Jesus do many good things? Yes, but the Bible says that he withdrew often from the multitudes to pray. We will also find that Jesus said he only did what he saw his father in Heaven doing. This would indicate that he spent time seeking out the Lord’s will for his life while on Earth.
If you are feeling like your life is always on the go, be encouraged and purpose to set some time aside today to spend with God. It is really very simple; we just make a decision to turn towards God and seek his face. Here’s an idea: set time aside to pray and be alone with God. Take all of the things that you have to do on your list and tell the Lord that spending time with him is more important than the busy life you have created without him. The way to get back to spending quality time with the Lord is found in the following scripture.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Here’s an interesting question: Is it sinful if we are neglecting to spend time with God? I believe that it is. The Bible says that we are to love the Lord with all of our heart. If we are so busy doing many things, then our love for him is divided. He wants our lives to be totally surrendered to his will. This is a daily process that must be done through prayer and reading God’s word. Take a look at what Jesus said to Martha in the following scripture.
Luke 10:38-42
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Christians who are neglecting God must make a change today. There’s no better time than right now to take a moment to repent and turn towards the Lord through prayer. Consider doing what Mary did and listen to the words of Jesus by reading the Bible. Every love relationship is preserved by spending time with the one you love. There’s no time as paramount as now to make a change. God will meet you there because he promises that he will be found when we search for him with all of our heart.
