Do Marquees Withstand All Weather Conditions?

Will bad weather conditions stop me from hiring a marquee?

When choosing a marquee one aspect to consider is the weather. The marquee of course will provide shelter but in extreme cases can the marquee withstand all weather conditions? Will it keep your guests dry in the rain? Or will it blow away if the wind picks up?

If you live aboard where the weather is usually hot and sunny then this is not usually a problem, but here in the UK the weather can be very unpredictable and the majority of the year its cold, wet and windy. Certain areas are consider to have better weather than most such as down south Cornwall, London, Brighton and so on have hotter summers, but South Yorkshire, Sheffield, Yorkshire, Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Doncaster, North Yorkshire, and Manchester tend not to be as nice.

So first of all are marquees waterproof?

Yes they are water proof and so if on the day you have a few light showers your marquee should be absolutely fine and no one will get wet and the marquee will stay relatively dry. However if the rain is a lot more severe and the ground becomes very wet it may seep underneath the marquee walls and into the marquee. You can take further action to prevent this by having carpet as a flooring in the marquee, this is a little more expense but may be worth it.

Should we have a heater for inside the marquee?

Even in the summer months it may be an idea to hire a few heaters, they do add to the cost but we feel if you are going to go to the expense of hiring the marquee you don’t want your guests to freeze to death and want to leave as soon as they can to get warm!

Will the marquee blow away in the wind?

No, all marquees come with a strong and solid structure to hold up the marquee and prevent it from being blown away in high winds. Nowadays you can hire marquees with aluminum skeletons which means you don’t need the central poles and they are a lot more stability in windy conditions.
