Foojoy Tea Company – A Review of Many of Foojoy’s Teas

I must start by confessing that there is actually no company named Foojoy Tea Company; Foojoy is a brand name owned by the Eastrise Trading Corporation. The Foojoy brand sells exclusively Chinese teas, and sells both tea bags and loose-leaf teas.

Foojoy never ceases to amaze me, mainly on two key points: price and quality, which combine to deliver outstanding value. Foojoy’s products, especially their tea bags, are among the lowest priced products available, and yet their quality greatly exceeds that of nearly all the mainstream brands available in most supermarkets. While I have a strong preference for loose-leaf, if I had to recommend one company from which to buy inexpensive tea-bags, without a doubt I would recommend Foojoy.

My Favorite Foojoy Teas:

  • Lichee Black Tea – This is a black tea, flavored with lichee (lychee) fruits. Although the aroma suggests sweetness, there is a strong presence of the underlying base tea, which imparts a pleasing depth and bitterness to this otherwise fruity brew.
  • China Black Tea – Incredibly inexpensive in boxes of 100 tea bags, this black tea resembles a Keemun, with a mellow flavor and rich, earthy aroma.
  • China Jasmine Tea – Not much Jasmine presence, this one still produces a drinkable cup. Mild, honey-like aroma; be careful to use water that has cooled from boiling, as this tea scalds easily.
  • Lungching Green Tea – While this bagged offering does not compare to a good loose-leaf Lungching (Long Jing or Dragon well), this lunching is nevertheless true to the style, with a pleasing toasty aroma, and a quality unparalleled in tea bags of this price.
  • Triple-Cup Extra Green – (Loose-leaf) This is a classic Chinese green tea, produced in Zhejiang province, and available only in loose-leaf form. The aroma is fresh, grassy, and slightly toasty.

These are only a few of Foojoy’s offerings; Foojoy also sells a number of oolong and white teas, and I have had good experiences with these as well.

Where to buy Foojoy Tea:

Foojoy tends to be widely available in Asian supermarkets, such as those found in the Chinatowns or Asian neighborhoods in many cities across the United States. Both the boxed tea bags and loose-leaf products are available online; some tea companies with their own brands, such as Mark T. Wendell, also sell Foojoy tea. Loose-leaf Foojoy, high in quality, can actually be somewhat difficult to come by. Google shopping can also help you locate online sources from which you can buy Foojoy.
