Typically, the sport of boxing involves two participants who are usually of similar body weight who fight one another using their fists. It is an intense, physically punishing exercise and is considered by many to be the most challenging of any sport. Perhaps this is because boxing demands so much of the individual and takes a great deal of stamina as well as body strength. Not only does your body have to be tough and strong, so does your mind. A boxer must possess the will to go on even when their body is telling them otherwise. It is most certainly not a sport for the faint hearted.

Boxing differs from football, soccer, or baseball and other sports where you are one of a team and success does not depend entirely upon you and your performance. When you step into a boxing ring, you’re on your own against the opponent.

Another unique aspect to this age old sport is that when you are competing you are expected to continue

without a break until the bell rings signaling the end of a round. You can’t ask for a time out as happens routinely in other sports. That fact alone calls for a great deal of mind control.

Boxing is definitely not a sport for just anyone. It takes a unique type of person who must possess a burning desire to succeed at this sport and who is willing to do what it takes to be ready to compete. The training is rigorous and exhausting and one must possess an enormous amount of toughness and sheer will power to compete effectively.
