Qualifications of Jesus Christ

Qualifications of Jesus Christ

Christ invites John to join Him in heaven to see what will happen in the future. Revelation Chapter 4 and 5 gives us our first look at God’s throne and the thrones of the 24 elders. We see the Holy Spirit and the sea of glass. We will use this “sea of glass” to identify the throne of God in later chapters. Around God’s throne we see the four living creatures proclaiming God’s Holiness. The twenty four elders lay their crowns before the throne and worship God.

We see four places where John is “in the Spirit” in Revelation (1:10, 4:2, 17:3, 21:10). When John is “in the Spirit” the Holy Spirit is giving John a vision. John is being shown situations and events he could not have seen with human eyesight. It is amazing that John was able to recall and record the events as clearly as he did. True prophecy comes from God through the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20, 21)

As we get a glimpse of God’s throne room and the recognition of all that Jesus Christ has done for us. We gain a feeling for the authority given to Christ and why He alone deserves it. As chapter 4 opens we see God in his throne room seated on his throne in full control of all that is happening in the universe.

In the right hand of God is a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. The only one worthy of opening the seals is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Christ took the scroll from the right hand of God. The four creatures and 24 elders fell down before the Christ and sang a new song as the prayers of the saints are released.

“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they reign on the earth.”

Hundreds of million of angels surround the thrones and sing another song.

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

Every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them are singing:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”

So, here we see why Jesus Christ is the only one worthy to open the seals. The birth and life of Jesus Christ is the most significant event in human history. Without Christ there would be no Book of Life and no way to gain access to the New Jerusalem. Remember that Adam and Eve were kicked out of paradise for disobedience. All of Adam & Eve’s descendants have also been disobedient. We were given the law to convict us of our transgressions, we were given grace to allow us to correct our ways.
