Water Water Everywhere

Ah water. It’s in us and it seems everywhere we go we are urged and reminded to keep drinking it. It helps your body to detox. It helps you battle the heat and humidity. It helps keep all of your organs working properly. It is our lifeblood if you will and without it we’d be hard pressed to stay alive.

We are made with about 60% water in our bodies. The experts say you should drink 8 glasses a day, but of course that depends on a lot of things like our age, weight and daily intake of other things too. But they have decided that 8 glasses a day, on average is a good thing. How many of us actually do this?

Water is a great drink but lets face it, it’s not very flavourful and with so many options it’s easy to just drink something else. Heck, coffee has water in it, right? But plain water is the best thing in the world to drink to stay healthy. It helps you lose weight by flushing waste and toxins out of your body and it makes all of our organs work better, so we look and feel healthier too.

Water helps keep our skin plump and healthy looking, it counters the effect that oppressive heat and humidity has on our bodies. As we sweat we lose water so replacing it, especially on a hot day feels really good.

And hey, if you don’t like plain water the problem is easy to fix, simply add something that you do like to it. Make spa water! Cucumber slices in water make a very refreshing drink as do many fruits and berries. Mint, ginger and lemon are also great in water and there’s really no limit to the mixes you can make up. Lemon and honey. Strawberry and kiwi. Mint and berries. Oranges and lemons. Apples and cinnamon.

If you want to start on the 8 glasses a day regimine but find it hard, it’s okay to start small and work your way up. Try two glasses a day or three and increase till you’re at the optimum amount. Another great way to get all the water in in a day is to take it with you. If you are in the car for over twenty minutes then make it a game and see if you can finish that bottle of water before you reach your destination.
